Aja
Problem
Women make up one of the fastest-growing consumer segments in cannabis, yet nearly every “women’s brand” still defaults to pain-relief, beauty tropes, or sterile, clinical aesthetics. As the industry shifts recreational, women are still expected to justify their consumption — to dress it up as self-care, wellness, or necessity. What didn’t exist was a brand that celebrated women’s real reasons for getting high: fun, pleasure, community, release, escape, joy, and living a more gratifying life. Aja needed to break from gendered stereotypes, challenge inauthentic category norms, and create a brand that actually reflects the women buying the product — confident, social, grounded, modern, and unapologetically themselves.

Solution
Born & Bred built Aja as the first highly unapologetic women’s cannabis brand — a bold departure from clinical minimalism and beauty-aisle clichés. Rooted in the insight that women “get high for a million reasons” (and don’t need excuses for any of them), we crafted a national brand platform that celebrates fun, expression, confidence, and modern femininity. From emotional benefit mapping to the manifesto (“No justifying. No expectations. Just fierce catwalks.”), we developed a distinct visual identity, packaging system, voice, and launch campaign built around joy rather than justification. Aja entered the market as the brand women could finally see themselves in — expressive, social, confident, and proudly recreational.
